Animal Shelter Website Design

Project Overview
Project Duration: March 2022 - April 2022
My Role
UX designer designing a responsive website from conception to delivery for Pet Network, a non-profit animal shelter. My responsibilities included: conducting interviews, creating wireframes, creating low and high-fidelity prototypes, conducting usability studies, and iterating on designs.
Project Goal
The goal of this project is to provide an easy-to-use, vibrant, and responsive website with an up-to-date listing of adoptable pets and an easy application process.
Target Audience
Pet Network’s website design is intended to appeal to adults of ages 25-65 that are seeking to add a new furry friend to their homes.
Key Challenges
Pet Network’s website was in need of a site-wide refresh and intuitive responsive layouts. Users were unable to view an up-to-date list of adoptable pets and the application process was too complex for many.
Research Study
We conducted surveys of Pet Network’s customers to identify their pain points. The results of these surveys confirmed the need for a responsive website with a modern look & feel, with an up-to-date listing of adoptable pets, and with a simplified application process
Ideation & Designs
Sitemap
Based on the identified pain points, I prioritized a clear content organization to allow users to easily find information related to available pets, volunteer opportunities and resources

Paper Wireframes

During the wireframes stage, I focused on including clear CTAs to ensure that users can easily navigate throughout the site. I also envisioned including more imagery and alternating layouts to engage the users.

Another top focus was to create responsive page layouts that would be consistent and easy to use across all devices.

Low-fidelity Prototype
Usability Study Findings
1. Users want a simplified application process.
2. Users want an easier way to filter the adoptable pets by animal type.
3. Users want a more visually appealing & responsive website design
Mockups & High-fidelity Prototype

Conclusion
The website helps users easily find their new furry best friend & support their local animal shelter. It’s a win-win-win!
While designing the Pet Network website, I learned the value of usability studies. The feedback received helped me refine my design and simplify the user flow.
